Sea_level_Polar_melting.jpgNew research has proven that a global sea level rise is expected sooner than thought. Ice sheets near the North Pole are melting due to Earth’s warming and will result in a sea level rise of 22 feet. At this rate, in another 80 years the temperature will be 4° F warmer, a similar situation as 125000 years ago.

This is something to think about said Jonathan Overpeck of The University of Arizona. 125000 years ago we had a scenario comparable to the one we are expecting, Greenland was without ice, resulting in a 3 meter higher sea level. New discoveries suggest that there was an additional rise of 3 meters and no Artic Ice. Bette Otto-Bliesner of the Atmospheric Research Boulder, Colorado, states: “the focus of what we do is polar, the consequences are global”. Ice sheets melted long time ago and sea levels were much higher. The extra higher temperature needed is not much above the present. Ice sheets are melting right now. The new findings suggest the melting could speed up, raising sea level faster than about one meter of sea level rise per century. In the second half of the 21st century there will be no way back, Overpeck said, “We have to stop the emission of greenhouse gas dramatically. A 4 to 6 meters sea level rise will be inevitable if we don’t do something about these emissions in the near future. The next decade will be decisive so spread the news. Coastal regions are more susceptible to the impacts of giant waves. The rise would eventually inundate dense populated coastal areas worldwide”.

numbers_facts_2012.jpgI want to present the science facts, not the science “facts” that seem to overwhelm many of the end of the world scenarios. Alas, I suspect that I’m fighting a losing battle. I got it wrong, debunking the doomsayers who are doing this for financial gain are not concerned whether their evidence adds up, they are using one tool that I cannot influence. Fear.

Solar_Maximum_main.jpgThree years ago, Patrick Geryl, in the age of 51, leave his job as a laboratory employee for a French oil company. He’d saved up just enough money to last him until December 2012. After that, he thought, he wouldn’t need it anyway.

He founded a “survival group” for on the same wave length people, aimed at living through the apocalypses he knows are coming.

Will the world end in 2012? Why 2012?

earth_1.gifThere have been a lot of people talking about the end of the world in December 2012. Will the world end in 2012? No, probably it won’t. Will there be a global catastrophe in 2012? That is very possible.
In fact, 2012 is the only date that has several prophecies surrounding it. This is important; there is a very little chance that so many cultures, from different areas of the world and different times in history, would name the same date for “major cataclysm “. I present some of this theories and prophecies here, not as certainties, but as possibilities worth considering.

Earthquake Survival Kits

The Office of Emergency Services and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are right. They, and local fire departments, recommend you self-equip with everything on their list. You don’t want to fight the crowd at Home Depot – unless that’s your idea of fun.

The kit, kept in a durable container such as the Rubbermaid Rough tote, should include:

Solar Maximum and The End of the World

2012_Sun_explosion.jpgLike most of the various ways the world is going to end in 2012, the possibility of the Sun blasting out is huge. There is a connection between the 11-year solar cycle and the time cycles seen in the Mayan calendar. Plus, religious texts (such as the Bible) say that we are due for a day of judgment, involving a lot of fire and brimstone.
What are the chances to get roasted alive by the sun on December 2012?
Solar physicist David Hathaway of the Marshall Space Flight Center prognoses that peak of the most intense solar cycle in the last 50 years is going to be in 2010 or 2012. The peak of the sun 11-year cycle, called “solar maximum“, so we can expect even more solar activity in the next few years.
According to American Geophysical Union, the next Solar Maximum should to peak around 2010 with a sunspot number of 160 plus or minus 25. This would make it one of the strongest solar cycles of the past fifty years—which is to say, one of the strongest in recorded history.

What is Megatsunami or Global Flood?

What_is_Megatsunami_or_Global_Flood.jpgMegatsunami (often hyphenated as mega-tsunami, also known as iminami or “wave of purification”) is an informal term used to describe a very large tsunami wave beyond the typical size reached by most tsunamis (usually around 10 m).
A mega tsunami is a huge wave starting from over 40 meters (131 feet) up to giants over 100 meters (328 ft) tall. Note that the waves are often much higher when they meet land, as the water often floods upwards from the force of impact.
Mega tsunamis may be caused by rock fall and landslide phenomena, explosive volcanic events, or meteor impacts. Underwater earthquakes do not normally generate such large tsunamis; typically tsunamis caused by earthquakes (such as the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake) have a height of less than ten meters at the shore (depending on how much water was displaced by the earthquake and on various natural factors such as tree cover and the general shore characteristics) but can affect thousands of kilometers of coastline and reach many kilometers inland.

What’s an Earthquake?

For the fact the Earth is not one solid mass, it made up of several huge tectonic plates that are constantly pushing against one another. The earth is always on the move, from millions of years ago when the world was just one land mass to the many continents we have today.
Earthquakes happen when tectonic plates slip after years of stress and pressure have kept them locked; the resulting shockwaves are the earthquake. The pressure between tectonic plates becomes so great that some of them move, violently shifting their position.

The Mayan calendar

1.jpgThe Maya civilization populated a region around southern Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Belize and western Honduras, and flourished between the third and tenth centuries AD, but by 1200 AD their society had collapsed for reasons we can only guess at. The ancient Maya had been keeping historical records – using a script which mixed ideographic and phonetic elements. Some of their writing still exists on stelae (stone monuments) that recount civil events and record their knowledge. The civilization of Maya is one of biggest mysteries in our time and almost all of their written data and knowledge were destroyed by conquistadores.

The Maya calendar is actually a system of distinct calendars and almanacs used by the Maya civilization of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, and by some modern Maya communities in highland Guatemala.

Polar Shift in 2012: Fact or Fiction?

Earth has known several polar shifts in the past, and future polar shifts are inevitable. The question that boggles everybody is “when will it happen again?”. Now scientists have concluded that magnetic poles are about to shift or even reverse itself yet again. Such an event has left the planet in chaos before so there are good reasons to be concerned and to prepare for yet another world catastrophe.

Violent Vortices
In recent news, at least considering that our planet now is 4.56 billion years old, an article was published in the Sunday Times of London on January 12th, 2003 stating that Nils Olson, researcher at the Center for Planetary Science in Denmark, warns for tremendous changes occurring deep in the Earth’s core. The magnetic field is considered to be controlled from the inner core and therefore his research is relevant to support related research about the impact on the polarities of the planet. Turbulent and swirling vortices of molten matter are impacting the levels of magnetic fields that hang above the surface of our planet. When those vortices get overly turbulent, something that appears to have started happening, a total reversal of the magnetic field can occur, in other words a polar shift or reversal takes place. Scientists also have found that those events happen on average every 750,000 years…which makes that the planet is long overdue for the next polar shift.
