In fact, the earth will not stop spinning - not exactly. The aliens will use a force to stop its rotation, but the earth's force will still try to spin our beloved planet. So, it will be like a spring being twisted. After a while, the aliens will relinquish their force on Earth, and then all that "spring force" accumulated in Earth will be released, and Earth will start spinning out of control! It will do about one rotation per minute, but that's only going to happen in 2013. So, you have more or less nothing to fear.
