What Do You Need to Survive 2012
What Do You Need to Survive 2012
Minimum equipment you need to survive 2012:
• Water
• Food
• First aid kit
• Battery-powered or hand crank radio (extra batteries for both)
• Flashlight (extra batteries)
• Whistle to signal for help
• Dust mask (to help filter contaminated air)
• Plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-in-place
• Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation
• Can opener for food (if kit contains canned food)
• Local maps
• Prescription medications and glasses
• Infant formula and diapers
• Pet food and extra water for your pet
• Important family documents such as copies of insurance policies, identification and bank account records in a waterproof, portable container
• Cash or traveler’s checks and change
• Emergency reference material such as a first aid book or information from www.ready.gov
• Sleeping bag or warm blanket for each person. Consider additional bedding if you live in a cold-weather climate.
• Complete change of clothing including a long sleeved shirt, long pants and sturdy shoes. Consider additional clothing if you live in a cold-weather climate.
• Household chlorine bleach and medicine dropper – When diluted nine parts water to one part bleach, bleach can be used as a disinfectant. Or in an emergency, you can use it to treat water by using 16 drops of regular household liquid bleach per gallon of water. Do not use scented, color safe or bleaches with added cleaners.
• Fire Extinguisher
• Matches in a waterproof container
• Feminine supplies and personal hygiene items
• Mess kits, paper cups, plates and plastic utensils, paper towels
• Paper and pencil
• Books, games, puzzles or other activities for children
• Any weapons for protection
Specifics
Actual emergency supplies often depends on a specific predicted events. Assuming Nostradamus to be correct, he predicted a sudden flooding as a most likely cause as well as solar flares. Therefore a specific emergencies, the most important ones are, which also cover tsunami events, and pole shifts:
• life preserver
• inflatable rubber rafts
• rope
• radio communication
• clothing to protect extreme heat and cold
• canned food
• portable water filter
• iodine or chlorine to kill water bacteria
• hiding in caves protect against gamma radiation
• A supervolcano event, uses very different emergency supplies:
• oxygen breathing apparatus
• gas mask or masks
• shovel
• plenty of water
• radio communication
Water
You should have at least a three-day supply of water and you should store at least one gallon of water per person per day. A normally active person needs at least one-half gallon of water daily just for drinking.
Food
• Store at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food.
• Select foods that require no refrigeration, preparation or cooking and little or no water.
• Pack a manual can opener and eating utensils.
• Avoid salty foods, as they will make you thirsty.
• Ready-to-eat canned meats, fruits and vegetables
• Protein or fruit bars
• Dry cereal or granola
• Peanut butter
• Dried fruit
• Nuts
• Crackers
• Canned juices
• Non-perishable pasteurized milk
• High energy foods
• Vitamins
• Food for infants
• Comfort/stress foods
Fun Survival Fact: If you choose to use your own storage containers, choose two-liter plastic soft drink bottles – not plastic jugs or cardboard containers that have had milk or fruit juice in them. Milk protein and fruit sugars cannot be adequately removed from these containers and provide an environment for bacterial growth when water is stored in them. Cardboard containers also leak easily and are not designed for long-term storage of liquids. Also, do not use glass containers, because they can break and are heavy.

This is Gerard Le Flamand and I dedicated this blog to prepare for the disastrous events to happen in 2012.

I’m just glad live on a boat!
This si a decent list for a non 2012 or other long term survival situation
For long term MOBILE survival you want to carry much less than what is on this list. What you need falls into a couple of catagories : Shelter, Food (gathering, preperation), fire, and water, misc.
Shelter: Garbage bags are great multi taskers work for storage and for shelter, Rope (atleast 100 ft), stakes(theses are non-esential as they can be fabricated), Duct tape
Food: A firearm is great as long as you have ammo, but remember that ammo is non-replenishable, takes up space and is heavy, personally something like a crossbow, whil it is heavier you can re-use the ammunition and even create more ammo in an emergency. Also essential is a knife for butchering (this can just be a regular survival knife you dont need a cleaver), you may want to put in a stainless grill to cook on, though it is by no means needed
Fire: this is probably most important you want to have atleast 3 fire starters in your pack and atleast the knowledge of how to start a fire without matches or lighters ie flint and steel, bow and drill. for premade fire starters bic lighters will work fine, though you may want to spend the extra bit for a sturdier packaging (if you do make sure it is refillable) a sparker (swedish firesteel) and water proof matches (campmor also sells wind/water proof matches for about 100:$2.5)
Water: A filter is probably a good addition, though they eventually wear out, i would suggest a UV purifier that has some means of being recharged, either from an outlet or from a solar panel. A pot for boiling water is essential. Another thing to have is the makings of a solar still. this would include roughly a 4×4 piece of sterile clear plastic, a sterile container of some kind and atleast 6ft of sterile surgical tubing (for instructions on making stills there are numerous guides online) bleach is a good last ditch resort, but iodine is better
Misc: Tools you might need : Knives, guns (dont forget plenty of ammo), an axe, maybe a machete. sandpaper (very coarse) is great for seperating bark into fibers that can be twined into rope or other cordage. Any means for keeping warm. I recomend a thermal blanket as well as atleast a fleece. If you are not in an area with lots of ground cover a therm-rest is a good idea to insulate yourself from the ground. WATER BOTTLES you need atleast 4 liters per person, dont buy these cheap you want these to last. First aid kit, this should focus not on bandages but pills and the like that you will not be able to find replacements for. Anything else you feel you need
All this should be carried in a water proof bag, or lacking that everything should be in plastic bags. this bag should be light enough to carry for great distances with atleast one other bag.
a few last notes: avoid things that need batteries that arnt crank or solar powered. Avoid things that are single use except in obvious exceptions:pills, matches. NEVER BRING CONTACTS!!! always bring glasses. Cash will have little worth except as tinder after the apocalypse so dont count it
luck be with you,
Hours
swine flu!!!!!!!!!
in deed its a good question. what we may need to survive 2012 is food, water, maps and some sort of communication equipment with the people etc.
